Learning Task 1: Activity 1: “Why This Internship Matters” Blog Reflection

ILO 1: Give the importance of teaching internship

Teaching internship is one of the most important parts of my journey as a pre-service  teacher because it allowed me to experience what teaching truly means beyond theories and lesson plans. It made me realize that teaching is not just a profession, but a calling that requires heart, patience, and commitment.

There are lessons learned during internship that cannot be fully taught inside a classroom alone. While lectures help us understand strategies and principles of teaching, being in an actual classroom showed me how these are applied in real situations. I witnessed how eager and innocent students are when it comes to learning, and this reminded me why teachers must handle their role with care and responsibility. Teaching is not only about finishing a lesson—it is about guiding, understanding, and inspiring students every day. The internship also taught me proper attitude and professionalism. I learned the importance of respecting and cooperating with my cooperating teachers and school staff. Through this experience, I realized that being responsible, friendly, and cooperative is essential in creating a positive school environment. Simple actions such as greeting, listening, and helping when needed made me understand that teaching also involves teamwork and humility. What surprised me the most during my first days of observation and teaching were the students. Some of them mistakenly called us “Ate” instead of “Ma’am,” while others did not greet us at first. Since I was assigned to Grade 7, I found the students approachable and curious. I was especially surprised when they slowly became comfortable with us—asking questions, participating more, and showing interest in our presence. This made me realize that building respect and connection takes time and sincerity.

Overall, the teaching internship helped shape me not only as a future educator but also as an individual. It taught me responsibility, cooperation, and the value of genuine relationships inside the classroom. These experiences made me more certain that teaching is a calling—one that requires dedication, compassion, and a willingness to grow.
